Richard Raffan gained recognition in the early 1970s turning bowls, boxes, and scoops. He has made other stuff in his fifty years as a woodturner, but not in any quantity.
He taught himself to use gouges and skew chisels turning knobs for light pulls and scoops. Throughout the 1970s he sold at least 50 scoops a week, often with a bowl as a set. The salt and knife boxes were made for the David Mellor Kitchen Shops.
How most of these items are made is detailed in Turning Projects with Richard Raffan and New Turning Projects with Richard Raffan.
